Virtual Reality was a known for being “futuristic” just a few short years ago. Now it has become a commodity and is being used in such amazing ways. Working in real estate marketing, I have been able to work with VR at first hand and have learned the process of what it takes to be created. For real estate marketing, we are able to use a small square camera that weighs about 30 lbs. to take 3D scans of a property. The program we use is called Matterport.

The camera itself sits on an adjustable tripod that allows us to adjust the height of the camera and move it up and down stairs as needed. After each scan, the camera sends a signal to the Ipad we use, which starts to put the house together piece by piece in real time.
We must mark windows and mirrors because later we will upload the entire processed home onto a computer where we will make the rest of the more detailed edits. If we don’t add mirrors and windows before this process, the camera may get confused and think the mirror or window is continuous and it is a part of the house and later on, it will look funky on the actual VR.

For my final, I chose to make various social media platform content for Holy Ship!, which is an EDM cruise ship. On their website, they actually have a 360 VR option that allows future sailors to check out their room options before making a decision.
I think this is a great way to ensure that the shippers know exactly what they are getting and are able to decide based off more than just a simple photo that may not show everything that’s in the room.
